Zonderkidz The Legend of the Easter Robin Book Review and Giveaway #EasterRobin #FlyBy

I received The Legend of the Easter Robin free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

The reminder of what our Savior and Redeemer has done for us is all around us in the Spring. New flowers push their way out of the dark, damp ground and bloom. Chicks, bunnies, and other babies are usually born in the springtime. There are buds and blossoms that bring forth all sorts of pretty colors on the trees. These things all symbolize new life, rebirth, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On March 27th Easter Sunday will be here and the Earth will be celebrating.

The Legend of the Easter Robin is a Zonderkidz book that tells of another Easter story, one you may or may not have heard of. This is a hardcover children's book for ages 4-8 years old about the legend of the robin's red breast that the Pennsylvania Dutch have passed down through many generations. The Legend of the Easter Robin tells the story of a little girl named Tressa, whose grandmother, Gran, reveals the story of a compassionate robin who saw Jesus struggling and soared to help him. This Easter tale reminds Christians everywhere how much Jesus sacrificed for us and how much he loves us.

This newly illustrated edition of the classic book by Dandi Daley Mackall is beautifully illustrated by Richard Cowdrey. I love the soft pastels that paint the pictures of the little girl and her Gran, the robins, and the bright sky blue eggs they laid. My daughter, Teela, noticed though that on the front of the cover there are 5 eggs when they only speak of 4 birds hatching and have the pictures correct with 4 eggs throughout the inside of the book. She has an eye for detail. These pictures are very adorable. In contrast the pictures of Christ carrying the cross are in black and white until the part where the robin gets his red breast and then there is a bit of red as well. These pictures are dark and sad, but also show that they were happening in the past.

I really liked the story and although I had heard of it before, it is nice to have a book to share the legend with my children. The physical copy is very nice to own. I will be making a tradition of reading this to my younger children for Easter.

Pro Plan has all these great features for this affordable price. Tests & Worksheets.

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:

Since TOS wanted this review of the Pro Plan to focus on the older materials I had my boys who are in 8th and 9th grades use it 3 days a week on average since we got signed up. The middle school and high school sections of focuses on language arts, math, and science. Besides math, ELA, and science we also found tests and worksheets for other subjects too. All printables are listed by grade and subject so they are easy to find. We found a lot of content that went well with what they were already being taught and enhanced their learning even more with media and hands on learning. We were a little disappointed that the Math and English are Common Core Based though. Online Self-Paced Lessons.

The middle school and high school lessons are meant for self-directed online learning and are set up similarly throughout all subjects. You can easily assign lessons to your student(s) by emailing them. All you do is choose the lesson you want your student to learn, click on the Assign tab or the Share Link tab at the top and follow the instructions. Each lesson starts out with a short introduction. Some contain embedded videos from different sources. They also contain links to other free online resources to help explain the lesson better, online practice questions, and printable worksheets and tests. You can also see which students have taken the lesson if you click the Report tab at the top (of note you do have to set up your individual students through the Online Testing tab first to see this correctly). I love the ability to be able to have my boys work online or have the option of also printing out the worksheets, quizzes, and tests as well.

Since my sons and I are very visual learners we love videos and images that amplify this. We absolutely loved that a lot of the lessons on have embedded videos to help visualize better what is being taught. These videos come from reputable sources like: Khan Academy,,, Grammar Bytes, and Bozeman Science. They also have original videos from too. If the lesson has media from these sources they have icons for each that easily tells you that they do and from where they come from. Also if they don't have videos the lessons sometimes have images to help visualize too. If you do follow a link off the site just be aware that there might be 3rd party ads.

I do want to point out that doesn't host a complete curriculum of subject matter on their website, so it should primarily be used for supplemental content only. They are, however, adding new content regularly. We hope they add a History section soon to the lessons and more science! Also, you can create your own content through the Pro Plan as well which is a big plus if you don't see what you are looking for already.

Delbin doing a Biology Lesson on Fungi.

My son, Delbin, who is in 9th grade is in Biology right now so even though these lessons are listed for 10th and 11th grade we found them perfect for supplemental learning to go along with what we are teaching him. We didn't find much listed in the 9th grade section, but 10th and 11th grade stuff was more abundant. He loved playing the BioGames and watching the videos. We had him go from the beginning for review and online science practice. We found that their curriculum for Biology is fairly complete.

Jaedan doing a Earth Science Lesson on Igneous Rock.

My son, Jaedan, who is in 8th grade is in Earth Science. He loved the lessons on Erosion, Layers of the Atmosphere, etc. He especially loved the videos and virtual labs that were included with the lessons. There were a lot of interactive things to make the lessons more fun. We also let him go onto 9th grade lessons in Earth Science too because he advanced quickly through the 8th grade lessons. is great for online math, ELA, and science practice or use for supplement. They have a great selection of middle school and high school lessons, tests, and assessments. We enjoyed using and will continue to explore its growing content.

You can try a limited amount of features out for yourself with a free membership. This gives you complete access to their Test Maker with up to 10 questions, but you are limited to a number of tests/worksheets you can store on their site. The Pro Plan of is just $24.95/year and gives you up to 100 questions with many other features too. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or PayPal. They accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. See more specifics here.

The Planet Friendly Diet Book Review and Giveaway

I was provided with a complimentary copy of The Planet Friendly Diet to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

A part of my New Year's Resolution is getting my family to eat a lot healthier. This is a huge undertaking, let me tell you! My husband and kids have been less than cooperative with the changes I have tried implementing in the past few weeks. When I go grocery shopping with my husband he usually breaks down and buys something unhealthy. I have been trying to change my family's habits, but habits are very hard to break!

Enter, The Planet Friendly Diet by Cat Smiley, a book about getting back to healthy over the course of 21 days. This is how many days it usually takes to create good habits. You may be thinking to yourself why does a skinny lady like me need a weight loss book?? Well Cat's book is really more than just a weight loss book. I need all the help I can get to stay a healthy weight since usually I am considered underweight by physicians and I really do need to eat healthier and exercise more. This book is chocked full of helpful advice and hints to get you well on your way to a healthier, happier lifestyle. It is based on a gluten, wheat, dairy and meat free diet. Some suggestions with recipes in the book do involve fish, with a totally vegetarian option also available. The Planet Friendly Diet is a cleansing program that resets and replenishes without resorting to fasting, hunger, or deprivation. It basically consists of drinking 4 liters of clean water a day - 2 liters before noon and 2 more before 5pm, having a super smoothie for breakfast (or alternative breakfast listed) and super smoothie for lunch, a sensible dinner with healthy ingredients, and nutritious snacks in between. All of this should add up to about 1200 calories per day.

The recipes for the dinners all sound delicious and not at all bland. They usually consist of fish or tofu (these are used instead of red meat and poultry). She also uses beans, brown rice, quinoa, dairy free yogurts/cheese/milk, veggies/mushrooms cooked in veggie broth, and lemon/herbs/garlic/spices/homemade salsa/etc. to season and flavor her recipes. Each single portion recipe has a lovely photograph of the completed meal, is under 500 calories, takes 20 minutes or less to prepare, and costs less than $5.

I love that The Planet Friendly Diet book includes a lot more than recipes and nutrition information. It has a total of 63 tips to help start you out on this journey and make things easier. These tips include information on what to do to get started, basics, hydration, fruit & veggies, grains & fiber, eggs & dairy, meat & fish, salt & sugar, and how to keep going after the 21 days have ended. There are blank lined diary pages to fill out for each of the 21 days with weight, goals, notes, what you ate for each meal and snack with cost and time taken, estimated calories eaten, and how much water you consumed. Weekly shopping lists are also included for the 21 days to ensure zero-waste.

This is a great 21 day guide to sustainable weight loss and optimal health. I do feel that in addition to a physical exercise routine The Planet Friendly Diet book would be the perfect melding of disciplines. If you stick to the plan and don't stray you will be well on your way to a beneficial lifestyle in 21 days.

Prize: One Copy of The Planet Friendly Diet by Cat Smiley!

My kids and I love how the Welch's® Strawberry Fruit Snacks taste and the bonus vitamins are a plus! They are gummy and chewy, but not overly so. Trudeau Valentine's Day Review and Tips For a Perfect Breakfast In Bed

Heart shaped chocolates made with Trudeau chocolate molds. Heart shaped egg and pancake made with Trudeau Egg Ring.
I received the Trudeau products free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

The best way to make Valentine's Day super special this year is making your loved one breakfast in bed. Your loved one will appreciate being catered to while being able to sleep in. Nothing is better than waking up to the smell of something yummy cooking in the kitchen! Go ahead, spoil your significant other rotten and don't overlook this treat!

Sometimes it is hard to get up early and keep it a surprise, though. I have some tips below that will help with making the breakfast in bed perfect. Making the breakfast with Trudeau's kitchen gadgets makes it more fun and even more extra special too because it is all in the little details that counts!

Tips to Make Breakfast in Bed Perfect:
  • Timing is Important: Make sure your loved one doesn't have to eat and run. It is better to pick a time and day that they have plenty of time to leisurely enjoy breakfast in bed and savor the experience.
  • Get a Bed Tray: Buy a tray with sides so that the food will stay contained and not spill onto the bed or floor. One that has folding legs is nice as well so that the food will be raised up off of the person's lap. It is easier to eat this way. You can also use a small laptop desk if you can't find a tray.
  • Presentation is Everything: It is the little things that make it extra special for someone else. Get out the fine china and pretty silverware. Use flowers as decoration: a single flower on the tray, flower petals sprinkled around the plate, edible flowers (you could even get crystallized candied edible flowers or make your own) placed on the plate. Use cloth napkins: You can fold these into all kinds of fun romantic shapes and some come in pretty floral or heart patterns. Make a card with a nice note on it or menu of the food to go with the meal. Decorate with a pretty placemat, paper doilies and/or confetti. Use heart shaped containers like bowls, reusable cupcake liners, etc. Sometimes the food can be formed or cut out into romantic shapes too!
  • Know What You Are Making For Breakfast: There are a lot of great choices out there and it does help to know your partner's favorites. Plan ahead and make sure you have all the ingredients, etc. before the big surprise. Don't forget the salt and pepper or cream and sugar, if needed.
  • Prepare the Breakfast Like a Ninja: If you sleep in the same bed as your partner get up early and sneak away stealthily. If they wake have a good excuse to make sure they go back to sleep. Make the breakfast as quietly as possible so you don't wake your partner prematurely. Sometimes you can also chop or mix the ingredients the night before. If you don't want them spoiling the surprise you can also put a towel in the crack under the bedroom door so they won't smell the evidence. Also try to clean up any messes before they are served so you can spend time with them and not kill the mood by having a messy kitchen.
  • Serve Drinks Only ¾ Full: Pouring beverages, especially the hot ones, ¾ of the way full will make sure they are not easily spilled when the tray is in transit.
  • Make Them Comfortable: When bringing the tray of food to your love, set it aside so you can prepare their area. Puff up the pillows and add extra pillows so they can sit up comfortably in bed. Straighten out the covers so that the tray can be on a flat surface. Add a towel, folded table cloth, or small blanket under the tray when you place it to catch any crumbs.
  • Get Them In The Mood: Play some nice music, give them a good book or the morning paper to read, watch a favorite show on TV, or just have a nice conversation while they eat.
  • Clean Up After: After they are done with their breakfast pamper them by taking the tray and cleaning up. While doing the dishes run a luxurious bath for them to relax in. While they are enjoying that don't forget to make the bed too.

4-Inch Silicone Egg Ring, Red Heart:
This Heart Shaped Egg Ring is made of non-stick, heat resistant (up to 428°F-220°C), and and BPA free silicone and is top rack dishwasher safe. This also doesn't scratch your pans like the metal egg rings. It is wonderful for making 4-inch diameter heart shaped eggs (use large or extra large eggs) and pancakes! These work better to if you make sure the Trudeau logo is right side up because the lip on one side is thicker than the other and it is easily flipped around. The thicker edge on the bottom helps with keeping the egg and pancake inside the ring. Also, since it is 4-inches it is slightly too big for a piece of bread or English muffin. The adjustable, metal bar grip handle is great so that you can lift the ring up without burnt fingers after one side is done to be able to flip the egg or pancake over. It also swings around so that you can place it flat in a drawer. 5 year warranty. - MSRP $5.99

Set of 3 Chocolate Silicone Molds, Heart Shaped:
These chocolate heart molds have 15 cavities each and come in a set of 3 in different colors. They are made from flexible, heat resistant  (up to 428°F-220°C), and BPA free European grade silicone that is easy to clean and are top rack dishwasher safe. These effortlessly release the chocolate from each heart shaped cavity. Great for making chocolates, ice hearts, gelatin/homemade fruit snacks/gummies, candies, small candle/wax crayon melts, soap samples, etc. I used my double broiler pot to melt the dark chocolate melts and butterscotch chips. I had fun experimenting and swirled the two in some, layered them in others, and put red hots in some of them too. My kids had fun helping as well. These are super easy to use. Approx mold size; 2.5cm/1" diameter each x 1.5cm/0.5" deep. – MSRP $11.99

Valentine's Day Ultimate Duri Polish Gift Set Review

Duri polish is a great gift for Valentine's Day!
I received the Valentine's Day Ultimate Duri Polish Gift Set free to facilitate this review.

Are you looking for something unique for Valentine's Day? Look no further than Duri Cosmetics this holiday season! All of their polishes are 3 Free Nail Polish, meaning they have no Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Toluene, and Formaldehyde in their products. They have 5 new colors of nail polish that they lovingly call the "I LOVE HUE! Valentine’s Day collection" to brighten up your Valentines and they are the perfect gift to give alongside the traditional box of chocolates and roses. They also have red and metallic embossed Valentine's Day Gift Boxes so that you can choose the perfect 4 colors out of their over 250 hues.

L-R: Everyday is a Valentine, Cupid Rules, Iced Roses, Unexpected Kiss, and Sweetheart

The 5 new colors in the I LOVE HUE! Valentine’s Day collection are EVERY DAY IS A VALENTINE - a pigment rich true red, CUPID RULES - a modern bubblegum pink, ICED ROSES - a pastel pink bouquet, UNEXPECTED KISS - an iridescent orchid pink with sheer blue undertones, and SWEETHEART - a bright red-orange shade. I received 4 out of the 5 new colors, missing CUPID RULES. My favorite shade out of the set is UNEXPECTED KISS! I love purpley-pinkish shades and this has a shimmer to it that I also adore!

My daughter, Zari, painted her nails in alternate ICED ROSES and UNEXPECTED KISS.

My girls love to paint their nails and host mani/pedi parties with their little friends. I shared the Duri polishes with them and I do not feel guilty in using them on their nails because they are non-toxic, safe, and environmentally friendly. They do, however; have a strong odor, so make sure the room you are in is ventilated while painting. Duri's goal is to make your nails healthy and beautiful, so paint on the love!

The Duri nail polish is long lasting and fast drying for a durable, shiny finish. I love that they go on smooth without any bubbling or pocking. I also love that they don't easily chip or peel off. The new colors are great eye-candy and will be the perfect thing to add a little romantic pizazz to your wardrobe for Valentine's Day or as a gift for a loved one!

Camerons Stovetop Smoker Review, Homegating Tips, and Alder Smoked Salmon Spread Recipe

I received the Camerons Stovetop Smoker and Wood Chips free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

Homegating, throwing a sports viewing party at home, is becoming more and more popular because of the increased prices of sporting events and bad weather surrounding some games. The cost to attend these events is getting too expensive and then even after you have spent all that money for a ticket there are traveling, boarding, food, drink, parking, and memorabilia costs. Homegating is so much easier than tailgating and your wallet will be a lot happier. There is really no place like home for the big game!

Here are 10 tips to make your Homegating an awesome crowd pleasing experience...
  1. Decorate your home inside and out like a champion with your favorite team's colors and logos. Banners, streamers, balloons, buntings, flags, coasters, wall stickers, lights, throw pillows, throws, etc., make the party more inviting. If you are having a backyard homegate make sure your patio/deck is cleaned, prepared, decorated with seating and patio heater/firepit to keep everyone comfy.
  2. Dress up with your favorite team's jersey and colors. Go all out and let everyone know whose side you are rooting for by painting your face, hair, and/or nails.
  3. Have the big screen and sound system ready for action.
  4. Have enough cozy seating for your you and your guests where all can enjoy the game.
  5. Make sure to have enough yummy, mouthwatering food (smoked or grilled meat, sides, desserts, snacks, dips and sauces, etc.) and beverages (don't forget the non-alcoholic cocktails and soda pop!) on hand and more than enough refrigerator/table/cooler space to store it all before and during the game.
  6. Keep your food warm with a slow cooker crock and your drinks cool with a ice chest.
  7. Make sure your grill is cleaned, prepped, and in great working order with enough propane or charcoal to get you through before you start grilling.
  8. Go the extra mile with a Camerons Stovetop Smoker and Camerons Wood Chips for fantastic smoked meat and veggies!
  9. Have fun activities ready to occupy your guests during breaks and/or commercials.
  10. Don't forget your camera, tablet, or smartphone. You don't want to miss taking pictures of your guests and spread, or telling your social media outlets scores and play-by-plays of super moves.

My Thoughts:
I love Camerons Stovetop Smoker! I've never had an indoor smoker and this makes smoking meat and veggies super easy. Since it is stainless steel it is simple to clean too! We received the smoker and the two samples of wood chips that came with it in the box were Hickory and Oak. I also got a larger tub of Alder wood chips separately. I decided to make an Alder Smoked Salmon according to the directions that came with the Stovetop Smoker and make it into a yummy dip or spread for crackers. I did find that the cooking time was about 55 minutes for a 2 pound fish instead of the 25 they suggest; although, my salmon was thick. I also added foil to the drip plate and sprayed the rack with olive oil for easier cleanup. My house smelled so good while the salmon was being smoked! Make sure you have your overhead stove vent on because it does smoke a little out the corners of the lid. This would be an easy, delicious side to make pre-game so that it can chill in the fridge prior to game day.

Alder Smoked Salmon Spread Recipe
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
  • 12 ounces Alder smoked salmon, flaked
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried dill
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion
  • 3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 drops hot pepper sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (about 1 medium lemon squeezed)
Whip the cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Place in fridge to chill about an hour. Serve with crackers.
